Portraits

I have been painting and drawing individual people throughout my career and am pleased to undertake commissions. Although I typically work life-size, scale and medium may be specified. The portrait studies may be taken from life in scheduled sittings, worked from photographs, or from a combination of the two. I have considerable experience working with children and am pleased to make special accommodations for them during sittings.

I try to offer a view of my subject that is natural, timeless, and authentic. People wear their usual clothing and assume a relaxed expression. I am happy to provide a context for the figure, but I generally present the person in a neutral space and avoid props and “photographic” gestures. The portraits are undertaken in a straightforward, representational manner and I invite input from the subject and others throughout the process. However, these are ultimately filtered through my vision and will not be utterly objective renderings.

Fees range from $800 (single figure bust) to $2000 (double, full figure portrait).
